There’s no shortage of ways to get stronger with Peloton, but there may be no more foundational practice than Pilates to lay the groundwork for a lifetime of functional fitness. That’s why we’re bringing you our very own version of this beloved practice. Inspired by our Members—who are anything but one-dimensional athletes with access to everything from yoga to strength training on the Peloton App—introducing Pilates to our platform is part and parcel of our mission to help you find strength in all facets of movement and life. Led by instructors Aditi Shah, Anna Greenberg, Emma Lovewell, Mila Lazar, and Rebecca Kennedy, there’s a whole lot to love about these low-impact workouts.

What to Know About Peloton Pilates Classes

Pilates is a low-impact workout that focuses on core stability and spinal alignment, and Peloton Pilates is accessible to people of all fitness levels and backgrounds. “We focus on creating deep core strength, body awareness and flexibility. It's like giving your body a big hug,” says Emma. With no equipment needed aside from yourself and a mat, Pilates is all about training your body to be resilient and approach any athletic endeavor with tip-top form, however you prefer to get your sweat on.

Originally named “Contrology” by its founder Joseph Pilates, the low-impact practice is chock full of movements designed to mobilize your spine and stabilize your core (which is more than just what you can see on the outside!), beneficial for athletes of all ages, genders and body types. You may recognize certain quintessential Pilates movements from other Peloton classes, such as roll-ups, bridges or boat pose. Emma notes, “the terminology is different in a Pilates class, and some of the moves will feel foreign to you but are meant to improve your strength as well as your balance, coordination and flexibility.” From start to finish, a Pilates class will focus on stability, posture and achieving that oh-so-coveted deep muscular burn!

It’s a popular compliment to other forms of movement and for helping keep you mobile and active in all areas of your life. “When we focus on moving from a strong, steady core, we can create and reinforce healthy movement patterns—and of course, get stronger,” explains Aditi.

A Breakdown of the Peloton Pilates Class Types

Peloton Pilates Emma Lovewell

Peloton Pilates classes are classified under “Strength” on the Peloton App or on your Bike, Bike+, Tread, Tread+, or Row touchscreen. You’ll also find classes in collections like Pilates with Equipment and programs like Beginner Pilates

Whether it’s your first Pilates class or your thousandth, Peloton Pilates has something to suit your goals. Not sure where to start? Here’s what you’ll find in each class type we offer:

  • 10 min Pilates: These speedy and stackable classes focus on building a strong core in addition to having specific focus areas, like upper or lower body. No equipment is required, but you can always kick it up a notch with ankle weights.

  • 15 min Pilates: Express: If you’re short on time and want to get in a full body Pilates workout, these classes are for you. Light weights may be used in some classes.

  • 20 min Pilates: A Pilates twist on our signature Peloton music genre classes, these classes are great for beginners, since instructors tend to explain each move in detail. No equipment is required, but your instructor may recommend some props.

  • 30 min Pilates: Power: These challenging classes typically use moves with higher resistance. They’re best suited for intermediate and advanced Pilates lovers, since you may need some knowledge of moves and proper form.

  • 45 min Pilates: Our longest Pilates classes are ideal for when you want a classical approach and a strength-building challenge with optional equipment.

No matter what class type you choose, our Peloton Pilates instructors will guide you through a workout that challenges your core, improves your mobility, and helps level up your overall fitness.
